Two Parts, One Great Experience
Sunday long runs are a staple in my training plan. Today’s run was unique, split into two parts, but still fulfilling and exhilarating. Here’s a recap of how it went.
Part 1: Playground Pit Stop
The first part of my run was a steady 6.12km at a 5:59 pace. I didn’t check my pace or heart rate; I just ran how my body wanted. This is the essence of a long run – listening to your body and running freely. As I approached a playground, I saw my little one playing with her first crush. It was an adorable moment, so I stopped to grab a coffee with my wife and soak in the joy of the moment.
Intermission
Sometimes life gives you moments you can’t ignore, and today was one of those days. Taking a break mid-run to enjoy family time was refreshing and made the second part of my run even more enjoyable.
Part 2: Memory Lane
After the coffee break, I continued my run. This segment took me through my old neighborhood, a place filled with memories. I even bumped into my cousins, which led to another brief stop. Despite these interruptions, the run felt amazing. I finished the last few hundred meters with a sprint, loving the strong finish and the feeling of pushing my limits.
Reflections
Although I planned for at least a 15k run, the breaks and enjoyable moments made time fly. Today’s run was a reminder that running isn’t just about the miles or the pace. It’s about the experiences along the way, the spontaneous moments, and the joy of moving your body. Whether it’s a planned stop or an unexpected encounter, these moments enrich the run and make it memorable.
Final Thoughts
Listening to your body, enjoying the journey, and embracing the moments – that’s what running is all about. Today’s run, split into two parts, was a perfect blend of family, memories, and the sheer joy of running. Here’s to many more runs like this!
